Business Description

The Center for Manufacturing Technology (CMT) is a member of The Custom Group – a leading, Massachusetts-based precision manufacturing company.  The Center has developed STEM programs to target young adults and mid-career workers that are designed to build upon participants’ existing knowledge in manufacturing, and/or to provide the education required to begin a new career in the field. The Center actively seeks to inspire and engage young adults in the STEM fields, with the ultimate goal of helping to meet the nation’s need for a skilled STEM workforce.   As a leader in these efforts, Center for Manufacturing Technology plays a pivotal role in advancing STEM education in the US.

STEM Partnership Summary

Tours

Center for Manufacturing Technology offers tours of its facility to students in grades 9-12 to introduce them to the manufacturing industry. The tours give students the chance to see first-hand the science of cutting metal and the technology that is used to manufacture complex components for many different industries.

Customized Robotics Programs

For the past five years Center for Manufacturing Technology has supported the Winchester Robotics Team, a high school program that builds robots and competes in the youth Battlebots organization, BotsIQ.   CTM's support has been in the form of sponsorship, as well as hands-on assistance with designing and manufacturing a robot utilizing machining technologies. Students who are involved in this program learn some of the practical applications for mathematics and engineering.
